Celebrate Open Education Week (March 4-8) at Iowa State

Open Education Week (March 4th-8th) is an international event where educational institutions share information about open educational resources (OER), open pedagogy, and other aspects of Open Education.

This year, the Open & Affordable Education Committee is partnering with the University Library and Center for Excellence in Learning & Teaching (CELT) to coordinate one event every day during Open Education Week. Whether you're a faculty member interested in creating a new OER, a student interested in affordable course material options, or anyone in between, we will have something for you!

Below are a list of events available during the week and a poster for those of you who need reminders:

Miller Open Education Mini-Grants Q&A

Monday, March 4th 4:00-5:00pm, 2030 Morrill Hall

Student Stories: Share your Experience  with Textbooks

Tuesday March 5th, 1:00-3:00pm, Parks Library Lobby

How has your experience with textbooks affected your education? Good or bad, we want to hear from you! Submit an anonymous note or sign up to participate in a video showcasing the different perspectives of students at ISU! Have you used an immediate access text in your class or a free open textbook? Want to learn more about these and other affordable options? Talk to us!

Coffee and Networking: Using Open Educational Resources in the Classroom

Wednesday March 6th, 2:00-3:30pm, 2030 Morrill Hall

Are you interested in open educational resources (OER)? Learn more from ISU's OER Trailblazers at this casual networking event over free coffee. Panel: OER Trailblazers Share their Stories

Thursday March 7th, 1:00-2:00pm, Memorial Union Gold Room

Join us for a panel discussion on the impact of OER in the classroom. 2018 Miller Open Education Mini-Grant recipients will share the benefits and challenges of making the switch to OER and why they chose to apply for the grant. Participants will leave the workshop with plans for incorporating OER into their courses and a pathway to making their courses more affordable.
