Case Study
As the course director for several introductory-level, multi-section lab courses in Biology, Carly has seen firsthand how students can struggle to engage in courses when they do not have access to their materials. She has been using low-cost lab manuals and textbooks across her courses for several years. In 2023, Carly received her first Miller Open Education Mini-Grant to develop a free lab manual for BIOL 2550L, Fundamentals of Human Anatomy Lab. This lab manual was created by utilizing existing OER from other institutions across the U.S. Currently, Carly is developing a second open lab manual, this time for BIOL 2120L. Through these lab manuals, Carly's courses will be able to save Iowa State students over $40,000 each semester.
