ME 2700: Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Design
Resource:
Case Study
ME 2700 is a required sophomore introduction to engineering design course. This course provides an overview of mechanical engineering design with applications to thermal and mechanical systems, and an introduction to current design practices used in industry. As part of the course design, learners will complete a semester-long team project focused on addressing societal needs. Students are introduced to the Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) process, also used in ME 4150 (Senior Capstone Course). I am pleased that it reflects current industry practice, and tools that I utilized in my own professional experience in design and manufacturing. This e-publication is free for students and contains an organized and accessible collection of readings and exercises aligned with tools student teams will apply in the course to design, build, and test a functional prototype. The course was certified to the Higher Education Quality Matters Standard in April 2023.
