Case Study
The Strategic Management course is a required course taken by all senior business majors in the semester before they graduate. The course is usually taught using several case studies throughout the semester. Textbooks for the course typically cost between $100 and $150. I have used several different textbooks in the past 15 years and most of the content in these textbooks is the same from version to version.
This year I decided to use a free textbook called Mastering Strategic Management available through the Open Textbook Library. The textbook covers 80% of what I usually cover in the class and it is free. I was able to add additional content through the case studies that I used. An advantage of the open textbook is that it is available in several electronic formats so students can print it out, read it on their computer or even an e-reader like the Kindle.
