This project supported the development of a new open textbook organized around the apparel design and soft goods product development process framework. These steps include research, sketching, developing a sample notebook, mood or inspiration board, pattern work, first sample, and the completed ensemble.
The intended outcomes of this project were:
- Develop instructional text and designer resources to support students learning of specific knowledge and skills needed to successfully design adaptive apparel. (Obj 1)
- Provide lesson plans, assignments, and instructor guidance to support each part of the adaptive apparel design process. (Obj 2)
- Support students’ adaptive apparel development through OER implementation in AMD 426, 495, and 496. (Obj 3)
To assess the project, the PIs collected data on the topic coverage, responses to, and impact of the OER developed.
As they shared in their final report,
"Based on the collected and analyzed data, we conclude that the developed instructional text and designer resources supported students learning of specific knowledge and skills needed to successfully design adaptive apparel, specifically in AMD 496. (Obj 1) Additionally, lesson plans, assignments, and instructor guidance were provided in the developed OER to support each part of the adaptive apparel design process. (Obj 2) Lastly, students’ adaptive apparel development was supported through OER implementation in AMD 496, but not in AMD 426 and 495 due to changes in instructor (Obj 3)."
