Enhancing Online Learning for Dietetic Interns with Articulate 360

To enhance the online learning experience for our dietetic interns, the ISU DI explored the tool Articulate-Rise 360 by building a new case study focused on management for Type 2 diabetes. The project PI, Nicole Tramp, was interested in the fact that Articulate-Rise 360 could create interactive and visually appealing features. She used the tool to create a case study, incorporated into Canvas, for the DI program.

The goals of this project included:

  • Purchasing Articulate 360 to build a new diabetes case study
  • Requesting student feedback to compare the case study learning experience in ThinkSpace versus Articulate-Rise 360.
  • Increasing student confidence in suggesting appropriate recommendations for the medication, blood sugar, and diet management aspects for someone with Type 2 diabetes.
  • Creating a copy of the Articulate-Rise 360 diabetes case within Canvas to share in Canvas Commons for other universities to be able to copy into their course.

Since the materials developed are open, students have the opportunity to continue to use the case studies and materials after the completion of their internship to study for their Registered Dietitian exam. Students will have access to the Canvas course (including the case study link) for six months after the internship ends, and may also save the link to utilize the case study beyond that timeframe.

The Articulate-Rise 360 case study was made available on Canvas Commons for other health professions seeking learning tools focused on Type 2 diabetes management shortly after the completion of the Mini-Grant.
