In 2020, Walter P. Suza received a Miller Open Education Mini-Grant to develop an open textbook in collaboration with an instructor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Since its launch in 2021, the textbook has garnered over 19,000 visitors.
The promising early success with the OER was encouraging, yet several key topics were still needed to make the textbook more relevant for teaching genetics at the undergraduate level. This project supported the adaptation of the textbook, adding two new chapters and applied learning activities to help learners develop competencies in applying the course's content.
