Parenting Education in a Global World via Open Educational Resources

Contributors

Dr. Lang's Miller Mini-Grant project involved the creation of a new textbook for her course, HD FS 249. In addition to developing new content for this text, Dr. Lang also compiled content from existing open resources and a variety of other reputable, up-to-date sources. This leverages the resources available while adding something new for instructors in need of OER on this important topic.

As the PI noted in her final project report:

"Students have provided extremely favorable comments, such as the

  1. ease of finding and accessing information,
  2. amount of content that is linked to outside sources that contain the most up-to-date, research-based content, and
  3. book only contains content solely related to our course (students continually made positive comments about reading succinct, pertinent information that is easy to access, navigate, understand, and apply).

Students also made favorable comments about the variety of resources they could access for additional information and the fact that it is free."

Since this project's completion, Dr. Lang has continued to update and improve upon her textbook, and has received an additional Miller Mini-Grant for her course, HDFS 102: Individual and Family Development, Health, and Well-being.
